Overview
Gynaecology consultation is a routine procedure performed by a gynaecologist to assess the general condition of the female reproductive system and determine the presence of disease and infections. Gynaecology consultations should be done frequently to detect potential diseases in time and begin the appropriate treatment as soon as possible.
You might want a gynaecological consultation if you
- would like to have a routine screening, including but not limited to pelvic, abdominal, vaginal, uterine, and rectal;
- have symptoms such as vaginal discharge, cysts or warts in the genitals, pain during urination, irregular bleeding, and pain in the lower abdomen or lower back;
- have a family history of reproductive problems or cancer;
- are pregnant and want to have a better control of the phases of pregnancy, attend to the symptoms, get information about the types of births, etc.;
- would like information and advice on various contraceptive methods to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies;
- have heavy and/or painful periods and pelvic pain.
What to expect during a consultation
During the consultation, expect to answer some basic questions including about your medical history, previously diagnosed conditions, medications taken and family history. The doctor will also ask you about the symptoms you have been experiencing (if any).
Examination may include feeling your abdomen and doing an internal examination. Most of the procedures performed during the consultation are standard and are generally safe. One of the common complains is a slight discomfort experienced when a speculum is inserted into the vagina or when abdomen is pressed – this is just a temporary discomfort and should not last very long.
The doctor may discuss with you the results of the examination, the likely cause of your symptoms, provide general advice, suggest other investigations you may need and treatment options.
Keep in mind that before making any diagnosis, the doctor may firstly recommend other tests.
Overview

Overview
An abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. The pregnancy is ended either by taking medicines or having a surgical procedure. You may want to get an abortion for health or non-health related reasons.
What to expect during the procedure
The procedure depends on the type of abortion – this will be recommended by the doctor depending on the stages of the pregnancy and other relevant factors. Your doctor should answer all your questions and help you understand what the steps of the procedure are, including how to prepare for it and what is the recommended aftercare needed.

EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION
What is it?
Emergency contraception can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if the contraception you have used has failed (for example, a condom has split, you have missed a pill).
One type of emergency contraception is the so-called morning after pill.
What else do I need to know?
-You need to take the emergency contraceptive pill as soon as possible for it to be effective (no later than 72 hours after you had unprotected sex). The sooner you take it – the more effective it’ll be.
-The emergency contraceptive pill can make your next period earlier, later, or more painful than usual. However, there are no serious side effects of using emergency contraception.
-Emergency contraception doesn’t cause an abortion.
-The emergency contraceptive pill doesn’t continue to protect you against pregnancy – if you have unprotected sex at any time after taking the emergency pill, you can become pregnant.
-The emergency pills aren’t intended to be used as a regular form of contraception.
